PETER F. DOERKSEN Peacefully at age 92, Peter F. Doerksen, formerly of Silberfeld, passed away at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Steinbach, MB on December 24, 2003. Predeceased by his beloved wife Katarina in 2000 and a granddaughter in infancy, he will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his children, Tony (Claudette) of Winnipeg, Jacob (Maria) of Ile des Chenes, Peter (Arleen) of Steinbach, Rudy (special friend Lorraine) of East St. Paul, Stan (Julia) of Landmark, and Marilyn (Larry) Blatz of Steinbach; as well as his 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Peter Friesen Doerksen was born July 19, 1911 in the Grunthal area to Abram B. and Helena Doerksen. At the age of five his parents left the Grunthal area to establish a new farm in Silberfeld. After only six years in their new home his mother passed away. She was followed in passing by his father only 19 months later leaving him an orphan at 12 years of age. Peter was taken in by the Jacob L. Kehler family with whom he made his home until he reached young adulthood. Dad was baptized upon the confession of his faith in the spring of 1941 in the Mennonite Church at Chortitz. On November 9, 1941 he married our mother, Katarina. Together they had a wonderful marriage that lasted for 59 years. They established their home in Silberfeld where they had a small mixed farm. Being a small farm only, Dad also worked at various seasonal jobs until 1958. At this time he took fulltime employment with Blumenort Poultry Co-op, later Grannys Poultry. Dad retired at age 71. They remained on the farm for another four years at which time they moved to Steinbach. Together he and Mom enjoyed their retirement visiting with their many friends. Dad also enjoyed the fellowship at the local coffee shop. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 30 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfield Dr., Steinbach. The funeral for Peter F. Doerksen will be held Wednesday, December 31 at 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at the Silberfeld Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Rest Haven and especially for the Pastoral care and the many friends for their faithful visits. In God we trust.
